The relationship between Zuidberg and OEMs goes beyond that of a supplier and customer: “We invest in lasting partnerships”

OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) make up an increasing portion of Zuidberg's customer base. In cooperation with these manufacturers of tractors and other mobile machinery, Zuidberg develops front lifting systems, PTOs, transmissions, tracks and components which the OEMs themselves integrate into their products. “We’re not focused on a quick fix; we invest in lasting partnerships.”

“It is extremely important for us and our OEM customers that the quality and reliability of our products meet the highest standards. After all, Zuidberg products are an essential part of an OEM’s image,” say the Zuidberg Sales Managers, Bert Boersma (front lifting systems and PTOs), Martin Kalter (PTOs and transmissions) and Ivan van der Vegte (components). “If, for example, something is wrong with the front linkage of a tractor, the end user knocks on the tractor manufacturer's door, not ours. So, it’s very important for the OEMs to work with a supplier they can rely on. We want to be that reliable partner for them.”

Plug and play ready
Zuidberg is involved with OEMs early on in the process when a new tractor or machine is being developed. “Together with the customer, we determine the best solution for the new platform to be developed. Our component, e.g. a PTO or lifting system, must be integrated into their design and the production line adapted accordingly. Together we seek the optimal solution for this.”

For each tractor model, Zuidberg provides a specific version. “We deliver our products pre-assembled insofar as possible, plug and play ready. Developments in this field are constantly progressing. This makes it increasingly easy for OEMs to fit our products in their tractors or machines.”

One-stop shop
Cooperation between Zuidberg and OEMs began soon after Zuidberg was founded in the early 1980s. “Lifting systems and PTOs were becoming increasingly popular in those years,” as Bert, Martin and Ivan know. “At a certain point, the manufacturers demanded to have them supplied ex-factory. We initially had two different models of PTOs that we could use. Now there are around 25, each of which, in turn, has its own specification. Virtually no two PTOs are the same; there is ever-increasing customisation.”

Moreover, the customisation is not just confined to PTOs and lifting systems. “As soon as the number of product groups at Zuidberg increased to include tracks, transmissions and components, the range for our OEM customers naturally also widened. We now have so many disciplines that we are becoming a one-stop shop. So, we can offer the OEMs a total package. We have all the processes in-house and do not have to depend on third parties. That is how we distinguish ourselves.”

The relationship between Zuidberg and its OEM customers goes beyond that of a supplier and customer. “We don't go for the quick fix but invest in long-term relationships with our OEMs. We enter into a long-term partnership, in which trust and security are the most important values.”

More than just price and quality
“We don’t want to just supply a product; we’d rather provide a solution,” the trio concludes. “You can’t do that with just a competitive price and a decent product. Aspects such as capacity, delivery, innovation and flexibility play an equally important role. That is why we continuously invest in product development, production methods and the expertise of our employees. At Zuidberg, we pay full attention to all the factors.”
